VIGO, based at Dunkeswell and producers of apple press equipment kindly provided Mulled Cider, which gave an appropriately warming start to the evening, before we moved on to David Attenborough's film on Climate Change. The film proved thought provoking and challenging as he explored what Climate Change might mean, in the long and the more immediate term. It was followed by a short group discussion before animated small group conversations as we enjoyed the refreshments. Our aim had been that these would all be locally produced, to illustrate the advantages of shopping locally but the snow prevented us fully following our plans. However this was amply compensated for by the delicious cookies and savoury breads brought by members of The Stentwood Community who run the Common Loaf Bakery, which well complimented the hot vegetable soup and cheeses.
There were various practical suggestions that came out of the evening. If you would like to take advantage of the schemes below or would like further information, please contact the named people.

The question was also raised; "What do Transition Groups do?" The Blackdown Hills Transition group is still in its infancy. This was the third film evening held in different villages; all the evenings have had good response and interest. We have a small steering group and are currently looking at how we take ideas forward. The main aims of the Transition movement are to raise awareness of the challenges we face globally, to look at how we can contribute to a more sustainable way of enjoying life and to encouarge local community co-operation to achieve this. Thus local groups might have different areas they explore, such as food prduction and supply, energy, transport or health needs.
To introduce people to the ideas around Transition culture, we plan to show a film in early March, entitled "In Transition". This will be accompanied by the local food and delicacies - and mulled cider. Look out for the date in the next Sheldon Matters.
Many thanks to David Botsford for his help and expertise in showing the film.
