Gill Wyatt's 'Creating Synergies 2'

E-mail Print PDF
Hi,

Here’s details of the workshops I’m going to be running this autumn. There will be more information available about each one so if you’re interested and want to know more or book a place, do get in touch with me. And please forward this to others you know who may be interested. Any help is greatly appreciated and needed :-))

We’re living through a massive transition where our evolutionary task is to find ways of working and living together that benefit all people, all of the non-human world and our earth. No small feat. Thomas Berry wrote about this transformation as the shift from being a ‘ ‘disruptive force on the planet Earth’ to becoming ‘present to the planet in a way that is mutually enhancing’ (in The Great Work, 1999).

We are facing increasing stress and chaos, which is challenging our physical world as well as the social, political and economic arenas. The difficulties we are facing can feel immense and sometimes seem impossible. The present rioting in London, the drive for democracy in the Middle east, famine in the Horn of Africa and debt problems in Europe and the States were all on the news today. And I could name other events too. Yet the challenges facing us and the stress and turmoil we are experiencing are also making us ready for the evolutionary shift. Its like the birthing process preparing us ...

The aim of each of these workshops is to explore, learn and develop capacities that are part of this preparation
  • Reconnecting our fragmented world.
  • Having conversations that matter which generate shared meanings.
  • Learning to see from a ‘larger’ perspective.
  • Developing both compassion and courage.
  • Listening to and embracing diversity, knowing that creativity emerges through this ability.
  • And be able to truly live the world-centric values that we aspire to.

Have a look at them and see what you are drawn too. And I look forward to hearing from you.

warmly

Gill Wyatt

Workshops Autumn 2011
Creating Synergies
Workshops Autumn 2011
Seeing Wholes: Reconnecting a Fragmented World

Explore, through an application of Goethe’s work, how learning to ‘see wholes' and the flow of
living energy, can develop capacities that rebalances our societies individualistic and competitive
nature. This enables us to grow world-centric values and access wise compassionate collective
intelligence that will help to reconnect our fragmented world. Sat 1st Oct

Dialogue: Creating Conversations that Matter

Discover how different dialogue is from everyday conversation. Through improving
how we listen, learning about our assumptions and finding out about what David Bohm
meant by the ‘pervasive nature of thought as a system’, a conversational space is
created within which shared and new meanings can emerge. Sat 12th Nov

Living with Heart: A Practical Spiritual Path

Explore the wisdom of the heart through ‘heart coherence', which brings together
findings from neurocardiology and spirituality. The enhanced heart-brain-body
connection means heart intelligence grows, allowing us to see from a larger
perspective. This means challenges can become opportunities, we’re able to be both
caring and courageous and more able to find the most loving thing to do for all, in any
given situation. Sat 3rd Dec

Gill Wyatt, the facilitator, has been a nurse, psychotherapist and groupworker.. Her
research and work through ‘Creating Synergies’ is concerned with the transformational
process needed by our society to transcend the challenges of the 21st Century. How can
we revitalise our democracy, create more cohesive and resilient communities and
promote more world-centric values so the emergent way forward is good for all?

At the Global Centre, Exeter from 10.00 to 16.30.
Cost: £25 (benefits/low income) to £75 (high income/employer sponsored)

Get Your Spuds Planted

GET YOUR SPUDS PLANTED!

Well every local garden centre and hard ware shop has seed potatoes right now, so grab a bag and have a go at growing your own this year!

They grow well in most soil types but ideally they should be grown in well-drained, loamy soil that is not too heavy.  The soil needs to be deep, well dug and with plenty of well-rotted organic matter incorporated.  Your plot should be cleared and dug over in late autumn/early winter so that the frost can break down the soil structure, which will make for easy planting in the spring. Ideally, potatoes should only be planted in the same part of the garden once every 7 years but, given that this is not practical for most, make sure its at least 3 or 4 years.

Place your seed potatoes just touching in egg boxes or on a tray.  Make sure the ‘rose' end (where most of the ‘eyes' are) is uppermost.  Place the trays in a cool, light frost-free environment and leave them to 'chit' (thats grow short stubby dark green tubers about and inch long, if they are white thats too much heat and not enough light).

A few days before planting, fork over the plot, incorporating some general purpose fertiliser in the top few inches.  Set the tubers in rows, either at the bottom of a ‘V' shaped trench or in individual small holes made with a trowel.  North-south trenches are ideal as this allows the sun's rays to warm both sides of the ridges. Plant about 12 - 15" apart.

As soon as shoots start to appear above the soil, it's time to start ‘earthing up' the rows.  This means pulling soil over the shoots from either side of the row to form a ridge.  This protects the plants from late frosts and prevents the tubers from becoming green and inedible.  Repeat this regularly until the ridges are about 8in/20cm high.

Potatoes need plenty of moisture, particularly round about flowering time which is when the tubers start to form.  In dry spells it is recommended that the crop is watered every 10 days or so.  N.B. Check for any current local watering restrictions before doing this. An occasional heavy watering is better than little and often as this does not get down far enough and encourages shallow rooting.
